My little big secret…

This week I had one of the most challenging decision of the year. I am writing it here because a lot of us (photographers) talk about our passion and how we love to photograph and document your life, but what are the implications really to do something we love?

I had a job offer that was presented to me last week and it was probably worth much more than what I currently earn. I did not apply for it, it just landed per chance in my life. At first, I said no, not really believing in it. Then I said maybe. After much thought and talk with my wife, I said no. They would not take no as an answer and offered me a bonus if I took it. I then said yes, thinking I would be mad not to take the security of a job like that. Well, after a day on the job, I realized that my true passion was photography and there was no amount of money that could take me away from it. I quit the job after the first day. The term “starving artist” has a different meaning to me now, but I feel so happy with the decision: it feels right!

So I know a lot of you find some of our fees high, but trust me, the photographer that does it as a full time job does not do it for the money.

I am doing it for the special moments of your life that I can capture and my passion for all that is positive in human nature. It inspires me, and I hope to inspire you as well. When I do inspire you, it is my pay off.

The art of blogging

Well when my wife told me I had to start a blog I was grumpy and resistant. I never was a writer, or for that matter, a great speller either. But hey, I started it anyway, just to see. As you can see I have not posted much but form the little I did I got tremendous response! I want to thank you all for that. In response to that, I am going to make sure I post at least 1 image or slide show of every wedding I capture, however busy I get!

Jeff Fuchs book launch is the 13th of September. An event not to be missed!

The event will happen in Montreal at the Marché Bonsecours (350 St. Paul East, Old Montreal) and it will be our first artist vernissage on September 13 2008 between 6pm and 9pm. Jeff Fuchs (http://www.jefffuchs.com) will be presenting his new book, show a teaser of his upcoming documentary and some great photographs.
